Happy New Year! 

We are not in typical northern MN weather.  The week during Christmas was unseasonably warm. (not complaining here!)  We spent lots of time walking in the woods and pulling a large sled behind the side by side with our grandkids.  Nothing is more magical than seeing them open gifts and have fun with cousins. It was especially fun to see them excited to receive cuddle sheets and pillow cases and neck warmers that I made for them. They always seem to come with a list of items needed to sew.  This christmas I had to make drink glass name tags, with 16-20 people, we didn't want to wash dishes all the time, so my son-in-law said I needed to make name tags.  Score for me, I figured it out with my embroidery machine and some fold-over elastic I had on hand.  

The new year is a great time to take inventory of your UFO projects.  We have the UFO club sheets ready.  I will attach the sheet to the end of the newsletter, Join us in getting those UFO’s done.  It costs $6 to join.  ($1 per project) all that money goes into a pot, and is used as prize money.  We want you to pick out 6 projects to finish THIS YEAR!

Put those projects in the project sheet.  You set your own goals here… maybe you want to make sure you get a block done a month, or a full quilt.  Your decision.  But fill out the sheet!  We draw a number and THAT is the number you have to do in the next TWO MONTHS.  Yes, you have two months to get that project done.  Maybe you took a class and didn’t care for the project.  Get it done, and out of your closet. 

What happens if you don’t get it done.  We have to put some skin on this, so you are required to BUY one FAT QUARTER from the shop to put into the basket, those also get divided up to the winners.  

HOW DO YOU WIN?  For every completed project your name gets into the drawing.  We also occasionally throw in a gift certificate for the UFO club members.  Win Win!

Our Winter Hours are:  M-F 9-4, Sat 10-3. We will be Closed New Years Day.  We will spring back to our regular hours when daylight savings time approaches in the spring.

Carol’s website will help you design quilts. She has a video showing you how to use her website and how to print out your information.  You can design a quilt with several basic blocks that she has on her website, she has quilt patterns using many traditional patterns, and a calculator tab that helps figure out size of your quilt with sashing, borders and different sized blocks.  The calculator will help you determine how much fabric you need for your quilt and she has links to YouTube videos that will give you directions to make these blocks.  It is definitely worth your time looking at this website.  

Charm Club: 

Charm Club meets  the second Tuesday of Each month. December 10th is our next meeting.   If you watch us online, you can get 20% off one time purchase the week of the club. 2025 Block of the Month: 

Charlotte will be teaching next year's BOM. It is called Pulsar from Studio 180 designs.

  This quilt is designed to use 2 tools plus the Quilter’s Magic Wand from Studio 180 Design. The tools needed are:  Squared Squared and Star 60. 

The quilt is designed for 11 fabrics.  Our fabrics are batiks from Island Batiks.  Cost of the BOM will be $30/per month (for 12 months).

Beginning Quilting Class:  We will start our class the third Saturday in January.  Meeting every other Saturday.  Jan 18, Feb 1st, Feb 15th, March 1, March 15, April 1st Clare will work with you for 6 sessions on basic quilting terminology, picking out fabrics,  block construction, putting together blocks, basic quilting and binding.   $20 per session.  Bring your own machine.  All sessions are recommended.  Starting in January.  (Signing up assumes you will be attending each session,  We will make the pictured quilt in fabrics you choose)

Did Someone Say a Retreat?   WE HAVE 3 SPOTS LEFT!

 We are going to host a retreat in Staples MN at “The Landmark Inn”.  It is a renovated former church that sleeps about 20 people.  We have reserved the dates of March 19-23.  A Wednesday -Sunday.  It looks like there are 6 rooms for sleeping, the great room is the old sanctuary, where we will sew. Two tables are provided for each person and additional lighting.  There is a full kitchen, people could food share, cater it in or go out. The rates are: Wed.- Sun. is $200.  You may choose your Bed, (1 to a bed)  The option is on our website.  You will Pay Landmark Inn directly for the retreat, but you need to sign up on our web page to select your room.

 UFO/UFP Challenge 2025        (Unfinished Fabric Project)

               UFP/UFO Challenge 2025

Are you ready to complete those UFP/UFO (unfinished fabric projects) in the next year?  What  UFP’s qualify? 

Any quilt projects that you have actually started, but which remain unfinished as of January 14th, 2025.  Sorry, an untouched stack of purchased fabric is not a qualifying UFP (so, hurry up and cut your project out.)

What is a finished UFP in this challenge?  It is a completed project from your challenge list. 

Whatever your project is, it needs to be completed  in the 2 month time frame.  

You will fill out a Quilt Challenge Form of your numbered unfinished projects.  We are doing 6 UFP’s this year.  On the form you will list your name, project description (color, size, any info you want to include).  We will make two copies of the form, one for you to keep and one for us.  At the January meeting we will draw the first number (any # from 1-6).  Whatever number is drawn is the project you will need to complete for the next 2025 UFP challenge meeting.  If your project is completed for show and tell you will be eligible to win a door prize.  

If you have not completed your project.  Your penalty will be to buy and contribute one Fat Quarter to the Challenge prizes to be awarded at the end of the Challenge year.

You will pay $1 per UFP totaling $6 at the beginning of this challenge and at the end we will draw a name or 2 for the grand prize. 

The challenge meeting will be at our charm Pack Club meeting the second Tuesday of the month.  On January 14th 2025, we will draw the number for the first UFP.  And award the Grand Prize for 2024.
