Anderson Fabrics February 2025 Newsletter

The new year has come and January flew by.  Hopefully you have been sewing on these cold days and out on the nice days! I have grand plans… to use up my scraps this year. I have saved multiple pictures of other peoples scrap quilts and started organizing my scraps.  There are many sites out there online that will help you determine the best way to use your scraps.  Sorting them into large pieces, into precut sizes, into strips or into crumbs.  (this is what I am in the process of doing.) I recently had a group of local 4H girls in the store and we used a small portion of my strips to make a quilt as you go “fanny pack”.  My purpose was to get them to understand right sided together and to sew straight and to see how long a piece needed to be to fit the space when doing a quilt as you go.  If you see our post on Facebook you will see they did pretty well.  I was happy that they seemed to understand the process.

In planning to scrapbust… You need to have some organization or plan for your scraps.. I have been reading from several bloggers..  I liked what I found from stringandstory.com

Destashing doesn't have to mean getting rid of fabric. Destashing means taking the fabrics that have exceeded their "shelf life" and giving them a job. Make some quick and easy projects. For example, pillowcases are useful for storing and transporting quilts as well as for sleeping or organizing the linen closet (store a set of sheets or towels inside a pillowcase so that all the pieces stay together and stack neatly on the shelf), and they use up over a yard of fabric! Make practice sandwiches for free motion quilting. Two fat quarters and a bit of batting makes a perfect practice size. Make backings.  Hope this helps you use up some of your “Stash”.

From Our Customers: I was at your quilt shop on August 21, 2024, while on vacation at Dunrovin Resort in Hines, MN.  I fell in love with a wall hanging in your store.  Clare explained that it was completed by using the One-Block Wonder technique.  She explained how to cut and assemble it, so I purchased 7 panels and went home to try this new project. It’s been 4 months and I finally completed my 1st One-Block Wonder lap quilt and wanted to send you a pic.  It’s not perfect but I learned so much. Thank you, Clare, for taking the time to explain something new to a new quilter.  Jeannie Grauel, Cleveland, MO

Earlier this summer I was in and you helped me with fabric and a pattern choice for a wedding quilt. Well we had not measured the panel I chose before we decided on a pattern. So I used all the fabric , same panel but different pattern and I had promised you a picture so here it is. Thank you so very much for all your help!!!   Caroline
